| If you’ve enjoyed Kim Harrison or Karen Chance, or even early Laura K Hamilton, then you will thoroughly enjoy this debut novel from Suzanne McLeod. We’re talking Urban Fantasy with a sidhe half-breed ,Vampire factions, witches, fights, spells and many many plot twists. If you like to have your plots spoon fed, then you probably want to skip this one – it is an urban fantasy with a murder/mystery theme, the bad guys become the good guys become the bad guys... then there is our heroine “Genny Taylor”... I’d call this an ‘enjoyable easy read – not too heavy, not too light’. There’s a bit of blood and guts, but nothing gory or detailed, no sex to speak of, and no serious ‘themes’, just a good plot, with solid background information that gets introduced at the appropriate time (not just an off cuff comment from 6 chapters ago that will have relevance to what you’re reading now) and characters that are developing nicely and have huge potential as the story grows in later books. This isn’t a ‘set up’ for the rest of the series; it is a standalone book, with its own complete ending. But I am looking forward to reading the next instalment. The whole story is deliciously well written, weaving past memories into modern situations, moving characters around, and those really neat plot twists. Oh, and delectable vampires with a lust for our heroine. I definitely think there is huge potential with the world that has been created and I am certainly looking forward to a nice long series from Suzanne McLeod. Let’s hope the next spellcrakers.com is as interesting as this one. | ||
