The second instalment in the Strange Angels trilogy is just as action packed and heart-renching as the first, it starts with a bang, and keeps the momentum going for quite some time. However, this is a second in the series, and I was left feeling that this was really just a stepping stone between the amazing book one and book three, as there wasn’t really a lot happening. Again, I am comparing to book one ‘Strange Angels’ which was just non-stop, on the go, and twisting all over the show. Betrayals was somewhat lacking in the twists and revelations. The whole story just seemed to be setting us up for the next instalment, with hints of conspiracies, and vague introductions that really left a lot to the readers imagination and speculation (which will all hopefully be revealed soon). Betrayals is written in the same writing style, with a nice easy flow to the story. My only issue in this story is the use of Dru’s father. I thought having his words pushing her on was normal and expected, her imaging conversations and his responses, also normal. But, although a normal reaction, as a storying telling device I found that once the story started to slow down a little and the internal drama about her father increased, it all just started to get a little repetitive. It may seem that I’m being critical about this book – but these are just minor ‘niggles’ if you will. I have a bit of a soft spot for Teen Urban Fantasy & Teen Paranormal Romance (as you know), but I am quite addicted to the Strange Angels series. I think Lili St. Crow has really got a great story, with really delightful characters, and a nice balance of intrigue, drama, action and friendship. I am looking forward to seeing the development of the relationships between Christophe, Dru & Graves, particularly now that we’ve got a few new people in the loop, and more potential for the ultimate betrayal. I am also really looking forward to finding out more of the back story around Dru’s mother. Book three is going to be explosive! |
