| Strange Angels is the first Young Adult Urban Fantasy from Lili St. Crow. A divinely well-written story, with action, emotion, fights and flights. Just brilliant. Our teenage heroine, Dru, has to deal with situations and circumstances that no-one should have to face, and she does it well. But there is a level of realism, it’s not just ‘she’s our hero so she can do anything’. We’re taken through the emotional anguish that she goes through, brave face to the world (I do hasten to point out – this isn’t a girl sob your heart out moment!). Her reactions are normal. Even if the situations are not. One thing I love about Dru, she’s not overly the ‘super-hero’ type but nor is she the ‘weak, gets through life and death situations by fluke’ type. She’s a normal 16 year old girl, who just happens to have been raised to know that zombies, wulfen and the like, are real. Are you getting the idea that I really like our Dru?! Oh, and then there is “Graves”. Love him too! How much can way say in a review, without giving away the things that are fun to discover oneself! With this book, it’s quite a close thing. There aren’t any major plot twists as such, but there is a constant stream of new developments and high action sequences. The ending, although complete, does lend itself nicely to the build up of book 2 in this series “Betrayals” which I’m now going to race out and buy. As this was my first time reading anything by Lili St. Crow, I’m delighted by the writing style, so now I am just intrigued to see whether the same style applies to her adult writings (written under the name Lilith Saintcrow) – stay tuned for the review that will tell you! | ||
